The Green Homes Grant is a scheme that has been designed to help homeowners and landlords make energy-efficient changes to their homes, with the help of government funding.

Providing you are eligible for the Green Homes Grant, you will get two thirds of funding from the government, up to the value of between £5,000 and £10,000. As the homeowner, you will be expected to pay the other third of the cost for the energy-efficiency changes to your home.

What Is The Green Homes Grant?

The Green Homes Grant scheme was originally introduced in September 2020 and in November 2020, due to covid-19 regulations, was extended until 31st March 2022. The guidelines state that work must be completed by the end of March 2021 for you to benefit from the Green Homes Grant vouchers.

You can get up to £5,000 to pay two thirds of the cost of energy saving measures like a new boiler or insulation for example. Alternatively, if you are a low-income household you can get up to 100% of the costs of energy saving works covered, of up to £10,000. Up to 600,000 households can be helped with the Green Homes Grant scheme. Apply now and you could also save up to £600 a year on your energy bills by making these changes.

How Can I Apply For The Green Homes Grant?

Firstly, you need to check you are eligible for the voucher, this can be done by popping on the website and searching for ‘Green Homes Grant’. Check the improvements that are covered by the grant on the government website and see which improvements you can make in your home. The improvements are then listed on the government website where you can see an estimate of the cost you can expect for these energy saving changes.

You will need to contact at least three Green Homes Grant registered installers to get quotes to carry out this work. Here at Halo, we are a Green Homes Grant registered boiler installer, so please feel free to contact us for a quote for your new boiler. Complete the Green Homes Grant application form online, including the three quotes and request your voucher. Once you have the voucher you can contact the company to start the work.

Who Can Complete Work Under The Green Homes Grant?

Only Green Homes Grant registered tradespeople can be used when you are applying for government funding to help with the cost. These tradespeople must be TrustMark and Microgeneration Certification Scheme registered. If the tradesperson is not registered with either organisation, they can not complete the work under the Green Homes Grant scheme.

If you are looking for a new biomass boiler under the Green Homes Grant, you will be pleased to hear that the team here at Halo are registered and you can use the government funding to pay for, or towards, our services.

What Improvements Are Included Within The Green Homes Grant?

The Green Homes Grant vouchers can be used to install one or more primary home insulation or low carbon heating measure. If you install one of the primary measures, as listed below, you can use the voucher to help cover the cost of the secondary measures.

The grant for the secondary measure is capped at the value of the grant provided for the primary measure. This could be towards the cost and installation of an energy efficient replacement door as an example.
